Mission Statement

Through various mediums, including the arts, research & public health, our group aims to be socially active and to empower houseless communities around the world.

The Sidewalk Project (TSP), a lived-experience women & peer led organization, aids unhoused, drug-using, survivor & sex worker populations, providing residents of Los Angeles case management including medical care and housing linkages and system navigation services. Our street team provides direct services including crisis response, system advocacy, wound care, job placement, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and creative community resources for mental health.

Low Barriers

The Sidewalk Project is committed to low barrier service to our participants. Getting your basic need met shouldn’t be so difficult. To serve our participants in the best way possible we want them to feel like they don’t need to jump through hoops just to meet their needs.

Houselessness

Houselessness is not a crime or an illness, but is often treated as both. It is simply a circumstance: to be without a traditional “home.” That said, there’s nothing safe or secure about living on the street. We believe that every person deserves the right to be safely housed and are committed to effecting policy for housing affordability & security.

Drug Use

Drug use is not a disease or sickness nor should its use be criminalized. We support navigation through drug use so that our participants can become linear, and lead lives that are joyful and healthy. We reduce vulnerabilities that people may experience while on the street and/or using drugs by providing them with harm reduction supplies and a community to fall back on.

Sex Work

Sex work is work. We don’t believe in the criminalization of autonomous bodies, and this includes sex work. Sex work is not human trafficking, and we look to uplift, protect, and provide safe sex education and supplies to our participants.
