The Sidewalk Project

We are an arts & peer empowerment program that exists to create wellness for those that live outdoors

Mission Statement

Through various mediums, including the arts, research & public health, our group aims to be socially active and to empower houseless communities around the world.

Focus Areas

Public Service

We are honored to have been authorized by the City of LA to provide syringe access services and expand our impact on the public health of the city that we serve. We aim to break down client vs. provider lines that define public service. That’s empowerment! We will continue to evolve based on what our participants ask of us. Peers are fully represented within our organization.

Art & Music

Art & Music are the heart and origin story of The Sidewalk Project. Art & Music is what we believe breaks down barriers between people, as we slowly heal. It allows an opportunity to raise voices that have been suppressed. Art & Music are a source of beautification, release and purpose. People are at the center of our well-being project, but Art & Music unites us.

Mental Wellness

The Sidewalk Project is first and foremost, a community-building organization. Our paramount goal is to empower marginalized people, individually and as a community while creating a sense of well being. One of our credos is based in research around community health: Happiness grows as it's shared. We sit at the intersection of the arts & public health.

Sex Workers & Survivors

Sex workers are among the most marginalized people in the the world and criminalization leaves them vulnerable to predators. Sex work is work, and we believe in decriminalization! We are committed to empowering sex workers with resources, public health access and education. We believe in support, not salvation.

Advocacy

We do our best to push back against stigma in society that reflects itself in systems, and to amplify the voices and needs of the houseless community. We believe advocacy for houselessness is intersectional and relates to racial justice, public health funding, rights of sex workers & drug users, LGBTQ rights, street sweeps, and housing, to name a few areas.

Drop-In Center

We operate a drop-in center for cis & trans women that functions as a safe haven and works to address the complexities of gender-based violence. The center lives in Skid Row and serves femmes in DTLA and MacArthur Park.  In our center we practice a failure free and low barrier modality and triage people in crisis through warm hand-offs to other providers.

Tax Deductible Donation

Whether or not we agree with the system, we are willing to make the system work for us to get shit done for the greater good! We are a 501c3 and are able to provide receipts for donations.
